Storm Shelters

Storm season throughout Tornado Alley and Dixie Alley can be filled with uncertainty and anxiety. This is especially true when the skies darken and the tornado sirens are sounding off. Our storm shelters can be installed in an existing structure or added as part of a new construction. These tornado-proof shelters can even be installed as free-standing structures on a concrete surface attached to an existing foundation or alone with prior inspection and approval required. 

Features: 

• Menard Storm Shelters are constructed of 3/16” thick steel with a 3/8” thick steel floor and a reinforced steel door. Our shelters meet FEMA standards, and the design has been tested by the Texas Tech Wind Institute and withstood the projectile and wind speed tests at 200+ mph earning the highest possible safety rating. In other words, Menard Storm Shelters are safe up to and including the storm conditions produced by an EF5 Tornado. Your storm worries will be a thing of the past!

• Three air vents have been added to ensure proper fresh air circulation. They are placed carefully to not compromise the shelter's integrity and Installed with the customer's safety in mind.  Air vents found on all of our storm shelters are  "Menard Storm-Protected" openings that prevent everything other than airflow from entering the structure while it's secured.

• An escape hatch in the door can be removed from  the inside or outside of the shelter.  If the shelter or door itself is damaged during a storm to the point the door will not open properly a 19-inch escape hatch allows easy access to the outside.  Upon request it can  be installed anywhere on the structure that will not compromise it's integrity.

In addition any additional expenses incurred by our engineer outside of the normal scope of a blueprint creation will be the responsibility of the requesting party as well.
